About This Recruitment

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is conducting the 22nd Edition of the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) for September 2026. The examination is applicable to candidates intending to become teachers for Classes I to V and Classes VI to VIII. The original application window was from 11 May 2026 to 10 June 2026. In the latest notice dated 25 August 2026, CBSE has reopened the online application portal from 25 August 2026 to 1 September 2026 to provide an opportunity to eligible candidates who could not avail themselves of the earlier application window. Candidates who have already successfully completed and submitted their applications need not apply again. The revised date of the CTET examination will be announced after closure of the reopened application portal. The examination consists of Paper I and Paper II. Each paper contains 150 MCQs carrying 150 marks and has a duration of two and a half hours. There is no negative marking. CTET qualifying certificate is valid for lifetime for all categories.

Eligibility Criteria

Qualification: Minimum educational qualifications prescribed by NCTE for teachers of Classes I to V and Classes VI to VIII. Eligibility varies according to the paper selected and includes prescribed Senior Secondary, Graduation and teacher education qualifications such as D.El.Ed., B.El.Ed., B.Ed. and Special Educ

• Candidates must satisfy the minimum educational qualifications prescribed by NCTE for the relevant teaching level.
• Paper I is for candidates intending to become teachers for Classes I to V.
• Paper II is for candidates intending to become teachers for Classes VI to VIII.
• Candidates intending to teach both Classes I to V and Classes VI to VIII must appear in both Paper I and Paper II.
• Candidates appearing in the final year of the prescribed teacher education qualification may apply where permitted by the applicable eligibility criteria.
• Candidates belonging to reserved categories may receive relaxation up to 5 percent in qualifying marks in the minimum educational qualification as per NCTE provisions.
• Candidates must personally satisfy their eligibility before applying.
• Being allowed to appear in CTET does not mean that eligibility has been finally verified.
• Final eligibility is verified by the concerned recruiting or appointing authority.
• Candidates must provide correct and complete information in the application form.
• Only one online application should be submitted by a candidate.
• Qualifying CTET does not by itself confer any right to recruitment or employment.
• CTET is an eligibility test for appointment as a teacher and is not itself a recruitment to a particular teaching post.

Applicable relaxation in qualifying marks is available to reserved categories including SC, ST, OBC and differently-abled candidates as permitted by NCTE rules. Eligibility and reservation conditions of the concerned recruiting authority will apply.
