About This Recruitment

Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam, under the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, has invited online applications for engagement of ITI Trade Apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961 and amendments made thereunder. Advertisement No. IGCAR/03/2026 offers a total of 200 apprenticeship seats across 18 trades including Fitter, Turner, Machinist, Electrician, Mechanical Machine Tool Maintenance, Electronic Mechanic, Instrument Mechanic, Draughtsman (Mechanical), Mechanic Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Plumber, Welder, Horticulture Assistant, Wood Work Technician/Carpenter, Mason/Civil Mistry, Book Binder, PASAA, Photography and Process Plant Operator. The place of training is IGCAR, Kalpakkam, Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu. The duration of training is one year. Candidates must possess an ITI certificate in the relevant trade. The stipend is ₹11,040 per month for candidates with a two-year ITI qualification and ₹10,560 per month for candidates with a one-year ITI qualification. The minimum age is 18 years and maximum age is 24 years as on 19 August 2026, with applicable relaxation for SC/ST, OBC and PwBD candidates. Applications are shortlisted primarily on the percentage of marks obtained in the ITI course. In case of a tie, higher marks in 10th/8th standard and then earlier date of birth are considered as prescribed. Shortlisted candidates are required to appear for document verification and medical examination. Before commencement of training, selected candidates must execute an apprenticeship contract. Candidates who have already undergone or are currently undergoing apprenticeship training under the Apprenticeship Act, 1961 in a Government, PSU or private industrial organization are not eligible. Completion of apprenticeship does not confer any right to employment at IGCAR.

Eligibility Criteria

Qualification: ITI pass certificate in the respective trade from NCVT/SCVT as prescribed in the official notification. For Welder, Carpenter/Wood Work Technician, Mason/Civil Mistry and Plumber, the applicable 8th class qualification is also relevant as prescribed.

  • Candidate must possess an ITI certificate in the respective trade mentioned in the notification.
  • ITI qualification must be from NCVT/SCVT as applicable.
  • Minimum age is 18 years as on 19 August 2026.
  • Maximum age is 24 years as on 19 August 2026.
  • SC/ST candidates get 5 years relaxation in the upper age limit.
  • OBC candidates get 3 years relaxation in the upper age limit.
  • PwBD candidates get 10 years relaxation in the upper age limit.
  • Candidates who have already undergone or are currently undergoing apprenticeship training under the Apprenticeship Act, 1961 in any Government, PSU or private industrial organization are not eligible.

Selection Process

ITI Merit

Candidates are shortlisted for training on the basis of the percentage of marks obtained in their ITI course.

Tie-Breaking

If ITI percentage is equal, higher percentage in 10th/8th standard is considered. For Welder, Carpenter/Wood Work Technician, Mason/Civil Mistry and Plumber, 8th standard marks are considered. If the tie continues, the candidate born earlier is considered.

Document Verification

All shortlisted candidates must appear for document verification. Failure to attend document verification results in cancellation of candidature.

Medical Examination

Engagement as an apprentice is subject to qualifying the standard medical examination prescribed by the competent authority.
